Video Production,

Freightliner

July 06, 2016

What an amazing journey we had on this project. First, we were tasked with getting the producer’s clearances to alter the original Elvis songs, then we needed to find a convincing Elvis impersonator who not only looked and sounded right, but could fit our production schedule into their busy performance schedule and was willing to sing altered Elvis songs.

Once we’d secured those, we proceeded with getting permission to shoot at the Bellagio (who, we came to find out, doesn’t like their image being tied to Elvis or showgirls) where the event this invitation was for was taking place. And then of course we needed some show girls, a Freightliner truck, vehicles and the ability to shoot in the Nevada desert and on the Vegas Strip! Producer Tara and DoP Randolph Sellars took our FS7 and jumped on a plane to Vegas pulling an all-nighter to get all the Vegas shots and plates for the green screen side and front windows done.

Then back to Portland to shoot the in-studio shots (one of the rare times our REX stage actually gets shot as a recording studio) complete with confetti cannon and band. And shoot all the green screen shots in an old truck warehouse doubling as G&L warehouse and a sound stage- the only place around town to get a 13’9” truck inside and shoot green screen. We edited both videos in this campy, fun style. Then we added a few effects shots: on the truck going fast, the GPS and the marquee. Russ and Brent added some cool sound design. And voila, we had two videos. One that came in a video card invitation with a personalized gold record to event attendees and the other on the registration website. We can’t wait to do something like this again! Oh, and the “Mystery Rocker” ended up being Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones.

Five Stars TestimonialBeen a fan of Rex Post for years. I’m used to handing them a big bag of half-baked ideas and watching them produce and polish it into a consummately creative and professional final product. Just finished a big job with them involving multiple locations, green screens, an Elvis impersonator, critical music licensing, last-minute changes, and many other tests to both their patience and production savvy, and Rex delivered in spades. A talented and thoroughly reliable team to work with!”-Brian Mount, Mount Creative
